In Teil 2 you and your partner each get a short text or statement on the same everyday theme. You summarize yours, compare, then discuss opinions and experiences. The themes repeat: health & food, travel, living, work, free time, media, celebrations, learning. Prepare an opinion + reason + personal example for each theme.
How Teil 2 actually works
Teil 2 (“Gespräch über ein Thema”) runs about six minutes. Each candidate receives a short text — often a quote from a person, like „Anja Weber, 35, Ernährungsberaterin: Gesunde Ernährung ist mir sehr wichtig…“ — on the same theme as the partner's text. The task has three moves:
- Report: summarize what your person says, in your own words.
- Exchange: ask your partner what their text says; compare the two positions.
- Discuss: give your own opinion and experiences, and respond to your partner's.
All three moves are graded. Candidates who summarize beautifully but never ask their partner a question lose the interaction points that make the difference between passing and failing — the same trap described in our main B1 speaking guide.
The themes that keep coming up
These areas appear again and again in telc B1 Teil 2 tasks and official Übungstests. For each, one example statement of the kind you might see:
| Theme | Example statement to discuss |
|---|---|
| Einkaufen & Konsum — online shopping, markets | „Ich kaufe fast alles online.“ |
| Familie & Freunde — family roles, friendship | „Gute Freunde sind wichtiger als Familie.“ |
For each theme, prepare three building blocks — not a script: an opinion (one sentence), a reason (one sentence), and a personal experience (two sentences). That structure answers any statement the theme can throw at you.
Phrases that hold the discussion together
- In meinem Text geht es um … / Meine Person sagt, dass …
- Und was steht in deinem Text?
- Meiner Meinung nach … / Ich finde, dass …
- Ich habe die Erfahrung gemacht, dass …
- Da bin ich ganz deiner Meinung. / Das sehe ich ein bisschen anders, weil …
- Wie ist das bei dir?
Drill every theme with an AI discussion partner
ZertFox's B1 Teil 2 practice works like the real task: you get a topic card with a statement, and an AI partner discusses it with you — out loud.
- Open B1 → Teil 2 and pick from dozens of topics: health, travel, living, work, media and more.
- Read the statement, then speak — the AI partner responds, asks your opinion and shares its own.
- Replay the conversation and check your AI-estimated feedback on expression, grammar and pronunciation.
- Repeat with a new theme tomorrow — one topic a day covers the whole table above in two weeks.
Frequently asked questions
Are the exact topics published anywhere?
No — task sheets are confidential. But official Modelltests and years of exams show the same everyday themes rotating. Prepare themes, not scripts.

No. The discussion reacts to your partner, so recited answers fall apart — and examiners recognize them. Memorize opinion structures and topic vocabulary instead.
What comes after Teil 2?
Teil 3: planning something together with your partner. It needs a different phrase set — suggestions, agreement, polite refusal.
